Washed Out

So Dreamy...

It's all about the visuals

This weekend I was discussing look book videos with friends. It seems that digital look books are popping up everywhere to supplement runway shows. Some companies are even foregoing fashion week for elaborate videos that better illustrate the feeling and aesthetic of a brand and their recent collection. The point of these videos is to display the most recent collection while telling a story. Companies are definitely trying to reach consumers on a more personal level, by appealing to their desire to live out glittery, pastel-colored fantasies. Lookbooks are also changing how fashion is viewed. This summer a company called Tucker was advertising by showing their video in New York City cabs. They gained a lot of popularity, and are now creating a collection for Target.

Soho Style

New Yorkers are known worldwide for personal style, be it impeccably on point or completely outrageous. It doesn't take long to find an innovator stomping down Lafayette. This weekend I went out to find some inspiration from the people on the streets. To my surprise, everyone I talked to was more than happy to have their picture taken. I guess flattery really will get you pretty far.

I've gone blog crazy

This week my entire life has revolved around blogs. Blogging, bloggers, the actual layout themselves. I have been working on a story for The New School Free Press researching how fashion bloggers have become an entirely new subcategory of celebrity. I started by furiously emailing and trying to contact a few of my favorite bloggers. I get a lot of my inspiration from people on the street, and my friends, but the majority of what influences my style is fellow bloggers.

Here are a few of my absolute favorite blogs:

In addition to fashion blogs, I read Robert Mackey's The Lede, New York Magazine's The Cut, and my new obsession is a blog called Boys Life. I was introduced to it by a friend who mentioned it when I told him about the story I was writing. He described it as disgusting, offensive, and that some deem it the male equivalent to "Sex and the City". I was intrigued. I looked up the blog expecting to be turned off after a one post detailing this guy's many exploits with women, and his "tricks of the trade." To my surprise, I was completely enthralled. What i found was a blunt, yet honest depiction of a single boy's life in New York City. I could see how infinite girls would be offended by his no apologies attitude, but the reason I am so infatuated is because the anonymous blogger is an excellent storyteller. If you are looking for an interesting, off-the-cuff quick read, check out Boys Life.

Strawberry Shortcake

Multi colored hair has been popping up everywhere and I am a strong supporter! I love that girls are embracing their wacky sides and everything from ombre to green and purple hair can be found walking down Spring St. A few months back I indulged in this colorful trend and got myself some pink hair. Once i looked in the mirror I felt as if I was born to be pink, and was truly in my natural state. I'm hoping do go pink again this weekend, just waiting for the rain to stop so I don't get caught in a storm and tint my clothes pink.

Here is a video from the free people blog where they use tons of colored extensions (perfect for those who are a little trepidatious about taking the plunge and reaching for some Manic Panic) and fishtail braid them creating an awesome look:

p.s. don't worry! even permanent color only last a few weeks

Here are a few more photos of amazing colorful hair:
