just some photos I love

Friend Material

My beautiful cousin Naomi writes a blog called Friend Material. You should check it out.

The Leather King

The Selby just released a short film about Mitch Alfus, otherwise known as the "Leather King". He owns Libra Leather in New York City, which he founded 30 years ago. What most don't know is that he supplies fine quality leather to some of the top designers. He lists, Halston, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Chrome Hearts, Rag & Bone, and The Row as major clients; just to name a few. The film shows his two sides as mogul, and doting father.

All I Want For Chanukkah

Ok, so Chanukkah has come and gone, but I was recently given some cash from my father to purchase my self a Chrismukkah (Christmas/Chanukkah) gift. On a very important side note, I'm guessing my father got the hint that though he means well, his gifts are much more for him than for the person on the receiving end. For my birthday I got a seat belt hand bag(where did you get a time machine to travel back to 2003 just to get my gift, Dad? so thoughtful), and 4 used books on topics of very little interest to me; he did include a Charles Bukowski book that I appreciated, but that's something Dad would bring me on a an average Wednesday. Fast forward to me sending a hyperlink-heavy list of Christmas "suggestions" that were all extremely reasonably priced. You got to love a Dad that knows when to throw in the gift buying towel. So now my major dilemma is what to get? There is a huge Alexander Wang sample sale starting tomorrow at 93 Mercer. I might have to wait for hours, but it will be well worth it to get up to 80% off on items that are still on the rack at Barney's. If I am too impatient to stand in the 7 degree weather, then I will thus be purchasing something from Helmut Lang, as they just released their Pre-Fall collection. Here are the looks on the top of my list:

If they all look really similar to you its because they are. But also, you would never have to worry about putting together outfits because everything works together so seamlessly!!

Opening Ceremony A/W 2010

The last time I went to a party at Opening Ceremony, I felt extremely underdressed, not to mention 4 feet tall. I had not planned on going until a friend and I were only a few blocks away, and thereby wearing extremely casual attire. I walked upstairs and amongst the racks of Alexander Wang, Comme Des Garcons, and Band of Outsiders, there were throngs of extremely tall, blog-worthy girls and boys. I saw lace bellbottoms, pinstripe suits, and yards of leather. Needless to say, those that buy for and shop at Opening Ceremony, are always impeccably dressed. Ok, so it's a little late in the season to be showing fall/winter 2010 look books, but I figured it was so quirkily pieced together that it was well worth sharing.

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang's pre-spring and spring 2011 bags have hit stores. Most of them are the same classic silhouettes redone in fresh colors and patent leather for spring. Someone please get me one for Hanukkah!

thin line

By now, I'm sure all 3 of my readers are pretty aware of my penchant for rainbow, dip-dyed, and ombre hair. Hanelli Mustaparta has just changed my life with this picture:

She dyed her part with liquid eyeliner! Brilliant! But I'll one up you, Hanelli. Streekers hair dye washes out the next day and comes in a tube with a wand like lip gloss. I found mine on sale at Urban Outfitters. Cant't wait to try it, I'll be sure to warn you if I end up looking like a fool.

Refresh

Last week, in one of my classes I watched a presentation by Pantone, which is the leading color company that caters to the fashion, design, and car industries, as well as others. They formulate colors and are essentially the universal language of color. Companies use Pantone to ensure that if they are ordering 6,000 t-shirts from Taiwan, they can just forward them the 6 digit Pantone code, that correlates with the exact color, for which they also supply dye formulas; o that every color is exact. They showed us a lot of mood and color boards, because the company also does color prediction. The color of the year is turquoise, so I was inspired to create my own.

A Single Man

A Single Man has become my favorite movie. Yes, there are lots but never have I seen a movie so visually stunning, tragically beautiful, and truthful. I was engulfed by both the film and the book, and lose myself every time I watch it. On top of all that the depiction of 1960s Los Angeles is beyond unbelievable and always leaves me breathless.
